United With Jesus: The Glorious Exchange

The moment we put our faith in Jesus, an incredible exchange takes place. The old life—bound by sin, separated from God, and living under the consequences of Adam—is gone. In its place, we are united in Christ, receiving a brand new identity, a new family, a new purpose, and a new way to live.

Being in Christ means that what is true of Him becomes true of us. Romans 6:3-4 says:
“Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”

Notice the past tense: it has already happened. When Jesus died, we died. When He was buried, we were buried. And when He rose again, we were raised with Him—recreated, transformed, and made alive in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the glorious exchange of the gospel: the condemnation and death inherited in Adam are replaced with life, righteousness, and freedom in Christ.

Ephesians 2:6-7 reminds us of the height of this blessing:
“And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together, giving us joint seating with Him in the heavenly sphere by virtue of our being in Christ Jesus, so that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

Take a moment to reflect on this. Your life is no longer defined by past failures, fear, or separation from God. You are now fully in Him—holy, righteous, and loved. Your old identity has been buried with Christ, and your new life begins today, in Him.

A Prayer For Today:

Father, thank You for the incredible gift of being united with Jesus. Thank You that my old self is gone and that I have been raised with Him into a brand new life. Help me to live each day from this reality, walking in the freedom, love, and grace You’ve given me. May my life reflect the power of Your resurrection and the truth that I am fully in Christ. Amen.
