In Christ: Understanding the “In” That Changes Everything
One of the most important ideas in Scripture is found in just two small letters: “i – n.” It seems tiny, but it carries profound implications for your life. The Bible often contrasts being in Adam with being in Christ, and understanding this is crucial to living freely and fully in Jesus.
In Christ, what He experienced at the cross becomes yours. Sin and its consequences no longer define you because you’ve been transferred out of Adam and placed in Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us:
“If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Being “in Christ” is like a baby in a mother’s womb—where the mother goes, the baby goes. Or like chocolate chips in cookie dough—as the dough is mixed, baked, and eaten, the chips go along with it. What’s true of Christ becomes true of you. Romans 8:1 says it beautifully:
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Even in the Old Testament, we see this principle. Hebrews 7:9-10 illustrates that Levi, though born long after Abraham, was considered to have paid tithes because he was in Abraham. Our spiritual reality works this way: where we are “in” matters, and in God’s eyes, everyone is either in Adam or in Christ.
Today, the question is simple—but life-changing: Who are you in? Have you been adopted into the family of God, or are you still living under the old order of Adam? Being in Christ means you participate in His life, His righteousness, and His victory over sin. It’s a powerful truth to grasp, one that can transform how you see God, yourself, and the life He’s called you to live.
A Prayer For Today:
Father, thank You for placing me in Christ. Help me fully understand and embrace this truth: that what is true of Jesus is now true of me. Free me from the weight of the old life in Adam, and guide me to live in the fullness of the new life You have given. Teach me to walk confidently in Your grace and truth each day. Amen.
